As the viewer walks into the room cracking occurs under their steps causing them to pause and question if they can continue. The work degrades with each foot step by each viewer. The material is a combination of latex paint, cement, loose weave jute and sand. The colour looks to be the clay, but the texture is off, and the organic jute coming up from in between the bricks says it could not have been fired in a kiln. The material has a distinct smell. Everything seems to be of natural, organic material but it is not.
Construction waste piles up in massive quantities in urban environments. I chose to use the form of a brick made in cement to reference common building materials spanning form and substance.
